The award was presented by the Association of Civil Engineers in recognition of BiMEP's contribution to the development of marine energy BiMEP has two separate test facilities, a wave power plant in Mutriku and an offshore site located off Armintza.  It is joint owned by the Basque energy agency (EVE), with a 75% stake, and the Spanish Institute for Energy Saving and Diversification, which has a 25% holding.

The Citizen Cooperative for the Generation and Consumption of Solar Energy EKIOLA of Ayala will be in Amurrio and will produce 1,550 MWh per year, enough to meet the energy needs of 700 families or small businesses in this territory. AIARAKO EKIOLA is expected to produce a 0 km renewable energy by the beginning of 2025.

Installation and commissioning will take ten months and the plant is expected to be connected to the grid by the end of the year. In the coming weeks, a membership drive will be launched to encourage local people to join the new solar production cooperative. Meanwhile, panel installation at the Ekiola Lautada plant is now complete and work has started on grid connection and authorisation for commissioning of the plant.
