The TurboWave Pre-Commercial Public Purchase program will be open until February 16th and aims to accelerate the development of air turbine technologies that respond to needs of the wave energy sector.

The Basque Energy Agency (Ente Vasco de la Energía) has published the Call for Tenders of its innovative "TurboWave" Pre-Commercial Public Procurement (CPP) program.

The TurboWave program aims to accelerate the development of air turbine technologies that are matching the needs of the wave energy sector in general and the specific technical requirements of the Mutriku wave power plant.
This four-year collaboration program (2023-2026), opens its competitive call for its first phase, in which several air turbine development projects will be selected for a first stage of conceptual development.

The call will be open until February 16, 2023. Previously, on January 31 at 10.00h (CET), a free webinar will be held to provide potential applicants with all the details of the call requirements, eligibility conditions and evaluation criteria. Registrations can be done through the EVE website, www.eve.eus.

The solutions adopted in the contracting process will be implemented at the facilities of the Mutriku power plant belonging to Bimep (Biscay Marine Energy Platform). The Mutriku power plant is the first commercial plant in Europe to use wave power to generate electricity. It is housed inside the breakwater that protects its port, in the Bay of Biscay, being the Oscillating Water Column (OWC) the technology used for energy conversion. The plant has 16 turbines with a total power of 296 kW, and has generated more than 2.8 GWh since its commissioning in 2011.
