Vitoria-Gasteiz is one of three cities (with Tartu, in Estonia, and Sondeborg, in Denmark) participating in the European SmartenCity project, which is working to implement the European strategy on the creation of smart carbon-free cities. In Vitoria-Gasteiz, the project entails energy rehabilitation of the Coronación district.
The project aspires to be a landmark, turning Vitoria-Gasteiz into a greener, more carbon neutral city that promotes local resources and the local economy. It was launched in 2016 and will run until mid-2021. This is a magnificent opportunity to improve the quality of life of residents of the Coronación district, with energy rehabilitation of 1,313 homes, making them more comfortable, and renovation of streets and squares that will make the district more attractive.
